DK Design uses the LED wash with tilt, alongside 140 other GLP devices, on TV
The 21st season of the talent show Deutschland Sucht Den Superstar (DSDS) recently reached its finale with an outstanding victory for Christian Jährig. At the same time, 24 of GLP’s new Creos fixtures enjoyed one of their first-ever TV appearances.
The production design of the long-running TV hit was once again developed by DK Design. Sebastian Huwig created the lighting design and planning for the finale on behalf of David Kreileman.
The new LED washlights, with fast, motorised tilt, were used together with other spotlights as a second light level on rolling risers, so that new lighting atmospheres could be created for each act. The modifications took place during the filming.
This time, the team chose not to use the option of seamlessly combining several Creos into huge LED bars, using the integrated connector system. Explaining the reason, Sebastian Huwig says: “We only have short conversion times between performances, so we decided on maximum flexibility and speed, and grouped individual devices in varying numbers, always adding new ones.”
The new Creos is a powerful, IP65-certified LED washlight with 18 x 40W RGBL LEDs, motorised zoom and motorised 190° swivel head. Thanks to the wide zoom range (4.3°–52°), extremely large wall-wash applications can be implemented, while the particularly narrow beam enables never-before-seen light curtains with impressive light intensity.
After the show, David Kreileman spoke favourably about the latest addition to the GLP portfolio: “The Creos is a real asset to every show. It stands out, whether used in single-pix control or as a powerful wall-wash. It is also very compact, elegant and cleverly designed. The motorised tilt provides an additional dynamic layer that served us well on DSDS. An all-round great, well thought-out product – typical of GLP. When Oliver Schwendke and Toto Bröcking from GLP showed me the device for the first time, I wanted to earmark it straight away for DSDS, which fortunately worked out.”
Lighting designer Sebastian Huwig adds: “The Creos also has the fantastic GLP colour mix, which sets it apart from other wash lights available on the market. But my personal highlight is the powerful zoom. While the Creos has sufficient punch, it can also be used very effectively at low brightness, which is always helpful on TV – because this is the real differentiator. The Creos remains accurate and brilliant in colour, even at low brightness.”
In addition to the Creos, 136 GLP impression X5 and five impression X4 formed part of the DSDS lighting design.
The technical service provider for the production was MLS magic light+sound from Cologne.
