Family continuity, quality and creative possibilities vital in the project and dry hire business
AMBION GmbH is continuously expanding its inventory of GLP products. Most recently, the full-service event technology provider invested significantly in the X5 Series and the JDC2 IP, the new hybrid strobe with video FX.
The company currently has GLP impression X5 and impression X5 Compact in three-digit numbers. A double-digit number of JDC2 IP, as well as a variety of other GLP products (including JDC1, JDC Line 1000, X4 Bar 10 and 20, as well as Creative Light 1 Plus), round off the offer.
The impression X5 washlight, with 19 x 40W RGBL LEDs, the new iQ.Gamut colour algorithm and a super-fast zoom (from 3.5° to 63°) proved to be a versatile LED fixture in a shootout. As a result, AMBION also invested in the smaller (7 x 40W RBGL) impression X5 Compact and the X5 IP Bar. To date, the devices have been used, among other events, at the large Online Marketing Rockstars (OMR) Festival in Hamburg, tours by Bosse and The Dark Tenor, and the Home of adidas Football Fanarena in front of the Reichstag in Berlin.
Frank Müller, team leader for lighting technology planning at AMBION, explains: “We were looking for current devices that reflect the latest state of the art and at the same time have a high level of market acceptance. In addition, our fixtures must generally work both in internal projects and in dry hire. All of this is available with the products in the X5 Series from GLP. We also like the family idea, which allows a seamless combination of different models in one application.”

AMBION was the first company ever to invest in a high double-digit number of X5 beam shapers. “The combination of state-of-the-art lighting technology and a rotating focus gives us a completely new added value,” continues Müller. “With the optimal optical and photometric properties of the X5, as well as the beam shaper, we have an ideal product in stock for illuminating objects and walls, which is particularly important for the trade fair and automotive businesses. In order not to have to compromise between the position of the fixtures and the object when it comes to ideal illumination, the beam shaper is often indispensable and the first choice.”
JDC2 IP
The new JDC2 IP hybrid strobe with video FX is also new to the AMBION inventory. Frank Müller explains the decision to invest in the larger, brighter and more versatile development – in addition to the previous model, the JDC1: “The JDC2 IP can be used more universally, especially for the touring and rock'n'roll sector, as well as for festivals. Its IP65 rating is the big plus point here. But it also offers us and our customers more flexible, creative and adaptive applications both indoors and outdoors.”
Despite the wealth of new design options, the first JDC2 IP deployments were initially limited to replacements for the JDC1. AMBION has already experimented with the integrated video-like graphic effects, the GLP DigiFX: “These are becoming more and more popular and are guaranteed to be a lot of fun for us! I am sure that the JDC2 IP will find its rightful place on the world’s stages,” emphasises Müller.
His assessment of the JDC2 IP is very similar to that of the X5 Series: “The devices appear to be of very high quality and are technically state-of-the-art. The wealth of design options has made it a very attractive solution for us, which we look forward to offering our customers.”
He values the working relationship that has built up with GLP over many years: “The interaction is very professional, friendly and supportive. The support is great. You can generally speak to the right people. We feel we are in good hands.”
