Alice Merton out on the festival circuit with GLP

Weatherproof XDC1 IP Hybrid and FUSION X-PAR 18Z as a flexible floorset

Like many other artists, British pop musician Alice Merton prefers to work outdoors in the summer – and as a result, numerous festivals are on her current tour schedule.

Highlights in June were the Southside Festival in southwest Germany, Hurricane Festival in northern Germany and Donauinselfest in Vienna, where the artist appeared as a co-headliner. All three festivals were streamed live on TV and achieved a high outreach.

The set, which was redesigned especially for the festival dates – a co-production by Alice Merton, set designer Kolja Briese, manager Paul Grauwinkel and lighting designer Clara Mix – is reminiscent of the setting of the video for the most recent single, ‘Pick Me Up’, which depicts an abandoned house in South Africa. It includes eight of the weatherproof Strobe/Wash XDC1 IP Hybrid and an identical number of IP65-certified FUSION X-PAR 18Z LED PARs with zoom in a flexible floor set.

While the XDC1 IP Hybrid, which can be aligned vertically or horizontally, is installed in dollies and used as a gas light and for blinder moments, the 180W FUSION X-PAR 18Z RGBL-PARs are used from a standing position on risers.

Of course, the weatherproofing of the equipment always plays a major role in a festival design – but the XDC1 IP Hybrid and FUSION X-PAR 18Z also have other impressive features to commend them.

Paul Grauwinkel is more than satisfied with the performance and variability of the floor package: “The output of the XDC1 is totally suitable for festivals where you sometimes perform in daylight. The two strobe lines, in addition to the 18 RGBL LEDs, with which the stage can be quickly bathed in colour, always provide eye-catching effects that stand out very well.”

In order to integrate the XDC1 into the set design as harmoniously as possible, special dollies were made with a matching rust look.

“We also chose the FUSION X-PAR 18Z because of its IP certification, high output and large light output. Thanks to their zoom [8.5°–55°], these robustly built spotlights offer a second level of design and can be used either as a spot or wide backlight. With their low power consumption, they are also recommended for festival use,” says Grauwinkel in conclusion.
